Funny and absurd cartoons from the recognized master of his craft Lubomir Kotra

Lubomir Kotra (born 1950) is a Slovak cartoonist who has drawn about 50,000 drawings of all kinds. In addition, he has written several humorous plays, repeatedly published collections of short stories and poems - in general, a real workaholic. But at the same time, according to Kotra, such artwork gives him only pleasure, and he has been doing all his life what he really likes. And the main thing is that his drawings are liked not only by their creator, but also by the audience, because they are really witty and non-trivial, and thanks to the absence of clouds with inscriptions that save many novice cartoonists, they are understandable to all people in all countries.

Kotra's humor is universal, absurd in a good way, but at the same time the artist avoids senseless giggling and wiggling. Many of his cartoons contain the artist's thoughts and ideas about freedom of speech and our life in general, which are hard to argue with.

Born in the Slovakian city of Trencin, Kotra loved to draw from childhood, and even more so to play jokes on his buddies, and even on his parents and teachers. Sometimes he got for it, but young Lubomir did not retreat from his own. At first, however, he decided to link his life with a more reliable profession than that of a cartoonist, and began studying architecture at the Slovak Technical University.

But already in his first year he realized that architecture was not what he wanted to do for the rest of his life, so he dropped out of university. His parents, of course, were very unhappy, but Kotra was stubborn and stood his ground. However, there was a reason for that: some of his cartoons had already appeared in newspapers and magazines, and the young artist was paid good money for them. So why study for five years and work in a profession you don't like, when there is an easier and more financially lucrative option?

Lubomir had many customers, and his cartoons were always in demand, as they were witty, original, and carried a hidden but easily readable meaning for any poorly educated and intelligent person. The topics varied: sports, freedom of speech, some phenomena from life. But with all this Kotra did not slip into outright nastiness, black humor or vulgarity, these are high-quality cartoons for printing in the most reputable publications, designed for the widest audience.

Perhaps, in the view of viewers accustomed to online humor, they are too conservative, they lack courage and humor on the edge, but these are the requirements of newspapers and magazines, and Kotra tried to meet them.

Soon Kotra realized that he could go international, publishing his cartoons in the world's most popular media. His trademark style and the absence of the notorious clouds with inscriptions were only to his advantage, as there was no need to translate anything. He took part in many prestigious cartoonist competitions and won over a hundred times.

Kotra now lives and lives in Trenčín, Slovakia, takes care of his grandchildren and children together with his wife, and continues to draw cartoons, which are still in good demand, despite the rather high price of 20 dollars per drawing. By the way, despite the world fame, some of his customers he finds on the Internet, which, according to the artist, has made it very easy to connect creative people and those who want to buy their works. And if you do something at a good level, or even better than others, you will definitely not be left without artwork.

Kotra is also a successful illustrator, but specializes mainly in humorous drawings and illustrations, so recently he had a hand in the “Golden Book of Slovak Humor”, proving that even in not the largest European country can be truly talented cartoonists.
