Juarez Machado (born in 1941) — Brazilian artist who creates paintings in the Art Deco style, which depicts the reckless and reckless pastime in a restaurant of luxurious ladies in evening gowns, or even without them at all, and gallant gentlemen in black tuxedos.

Champagne tango

Looking at these paintings, it seems that time has stopped in the early 20th century, when everyone was dancing a passionate tango, drinking wine and indulging in carefree fun, based on the principle: “tomorrow is still unknown what will happen, but today I am happy and good”. Perhaps that is why they are so popular in the artist's homeland and Russia, because they fully reflect the mentality of these countries.

On the table

However, the action taking place there could well take place in some luxurious European restaurant, in Venice on a gondola, or in the Mediterranean Sea on a yacht - in general, anywhere that is nice, but expensive, and inaccessible to most ordinary mortals.

However, Machado knows well what he is painting about, he is a wealthy and famous man, although he came to fame and fortune through his talent and perseverance.

Dance

Machado is originally from the Brazilian city of Joinville, located in the state of Santa Catarina. When he was 14 years old, his family moved to the city of Curitiba, and Machado began to study at the local school of fine arts. Thanks to his extraordinary abilities, his paintings were quickly noticed, and after 6 years Machado very successfully presented his work at art exhibitions, where he took first place.

Here's to love

Critics were impressed by his ability to perfectly convey the proper expression in the paintings, it seems that the viewer and himself immersed in the atmosphere of eternal drunken festivities and reckless nightlife, so verified movements and poses of the characters depicted there.

In the rhythm of the tango

Machado does not take it all too seriously, and therefore puts a good deal of irony into his paintings. But it is this approach that allows us to treat the “pro-lifers” depicted in them with a certain degree of condescension. They are like jesters in the buffoonery, let them consider themselves masters and winners, and dressed in expensive costumes. But a drunken man, even in an expensive restaurant, often looks ridiculous, and Machado reinforces this effect.

Oh, what a racket

Because of the frankly old-fashioned outfits, the characters in his paintings seem to be relics of irrevocably bygone times, but this approach allows to meet all the features of Art Deco style, and at the same time plays on the perception of modern viewers. These are already some abstract people who knew how to have fun and indulge in this business with a sincere passion, rather than modern merchants who profit from mere mortals and spend money in restaurants.

By the way, the ladies in Machado's paintings are emphatically relaxed, even a little vulgar, probably many of them earn money by the oldest profession and just make a pleasant company for rich men.

Nude party

In 1964, Machado held a solo exhibition, where he sold most of his paintings. There was money and a keen desire to move on. He moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he tried to succeed in caricature, sculpture and painting. But in the early 1970's decided not to dissipate and focus solely on paintings, favor by that time he had already formed his own unique authorial style.

We're sitting pretty.

Repeatedly participated in the largest international competitions, held exhibitions of his paintings in New York and London. This brought him worldwide fame, and in 1986 he moved to Paris, where he currently lives, creating his impressive paintings, which are willingly bought by collectors and leading museums around the world.
