Alexander Ermolovich is a Barnaul artist who draws colorful caricatures that resemble cartoon images. He manages to combine “childish” drawing and adult subjects in a surprisingly harmonious way, and as a result his caricatures leave few people indifferent.
There is not too much hard satire and black humor in them, but there is an ironic view of the world, when the artist accepts it as it is, only occasionally focusing attention on the most, in his opinion, pressing problems. For example, widespread drunkenness, social injustice, the youth's fascination with various “puffballs”, the unwillingness of some citizens to adhere to the basics of healthy eating, etc.
But at the same time, Yermolovich does not “burn with napalm”, leaves his characters a chance for correction, tries to ridicule this or that situation, not satirically expose it. That is why there is no place in his cartoons for obvious grotesque and emphasis on negativity, but they still leave a positive impression, not least because of their cartoonish cartoonish drawings.
-...What's wrong with you? - ...my..., really, got it with the fur coat...
Alexander Ermolovich can well be called a lucky man. Ever since he was a child, he wanted very much to become a cartoonist. After school and the army, remembering his childhood dream, tried to get a job at Soyuzmultfilm, to the very Fyodor Khitruk. He passed the exams, but then things did not work out, and Ermolovich was pointed at the door. He hastily tried to get a job at Disney, but even there they had little interest in the budding Russian artist.
He had to return to his native Barnaul, where Ermolovich got a job in a local advertising agency. But it was possible to create his favorite cartoons, which Ermolovich made according to all the rules of large animation - 12 frames per second, which even with their short duration required a lot of drawings: over 400 for a 45-second commercial.
Protective Circle
In addition, Ermolovich moonlighted as a cartoonist in local newspapers, created children's coloring books, illustrated books, in general, took on any artistic work for which they paid.
But he became famous mainly for his cartoons, of which he drew many. In terms of brevity and level of drawing, they resemble the works of old Soviet cartoonists: there is nothing superfluous in them, a minimum of text, or even no text at all, the humorous situation is shown very clearly, but at the same time each cartoon is a separate story, where its climax is captured.
Firecracker
Ermolovich does not reveal his story through a multitude of pictures as Bidstrup did, for example, but many people even like this style better because it allows them to grasp the essence of the cartoon on the run.
Rest in peace
But in addition to high-quality drawing, fresh ideas are important for a cartoonist. And here Yermolovich is at the top of his game: the plots of his cartoons are funny, topical and not sinfully repetitive. He does not focus on any single, particularly successful characters, as do many other cartoonists, such as Vasya Lozhkin. And a good cartooning school allows you to work correctly with the composition.
Now you understand why I was for figure skating...
Even in the most complex and multi-figured caricatures, each character is organic and in its place. It is not surprising that Ermolovich's caricatures are very popular, and they have their fans who like the bright cartoonish drawing, the adult problems they touch upon, and the masterfully played out humorous situations.
