You should not think that comic books are simple stories about superheroes for teenagers, and adults are not interested in them at all. In fact, everything is different, there are many varieties of comics, including ironic comics, which are just and designed for an adult audience. They are much closer to classic cartoons, and their main purpose is not to tell a story in a series of sequential pictures, but to make us laugh and think about our lives.
One of the most famous comic book artists is Daniel Charles Piraro, whose artwork has its fair share of good absurdity that makes you laugh. In his comics under the Bizarro cycle Dan ironically examines many aspects of our lives, and one can only wonder at the artist's rich imagination and his unconventional view of many things. But this is just the tip of the iceberg, Dan Piraro's comics are deeper than they seem at first glance and represent a kind of rebus that the audience has yet to solve.
Each comic has riddles and secret messages, the number of which is indicated near the artist's signature. So, solving Dan's comics is a kind of test for erudition and abstract thinking, as well as just an interesting game, because at the end the artist always decodes all the messages in the drawings.
Once, in his youth, Dan Piraro made a rule for himself to draw one funny drawing every day and has been following it for almost 36 years. Not surprisingly, he has a lot of drawings, enough of them to release 18 albums, get the deserved recognition all over the world and many prestigious awards.
Piraro always tries to keep up with the latest world events, his comics are topical, but not too political; according to the artist, the audience is more interested in what directly concerns them. However, they are not meant to be pure entertainment, they reflect some existing problems and generally make us think about our lives.
By the way, Piraro himself is a serious vegetarian and an advocate of animal rights, which is reflected in his artwork. Animals are often equal participants in the action on an equal footing with humans.
Piraro complained that it was becoming increasingly difficult to work online - it was hard to compete with the huge number of unprofessional artists who often drew primitive, vulgar cartoons without much thought to their meaning. And in this stream of the same-type comics to find something really worthwhile and original is becoming increasingly difficult. To Piraro's credit, he doesn't indulge in vulgarity and outright blackness, preferring humor that is absurd and a bit intellectual. And it is noticeable: the level of his artwork is much higher than the average on the network. However, his comics always find their audience, and for decades he has been a top artist.
In addition to comics, he also paints watercolors, which he sells in chain stores. In general, he can't complain about the lack of money, although he even had to move to Mexico because of the critical cost of health care in the United States.
Piraro's comics are very concise, they don't have long dialogues and unnecessary clouds with inscriptions: the whole plot, as a rule, fits into one picture. And they also have small pass-halts - a kind of test for attention and erudition. By the way, some of his drawings can be truly understood and appreciated only by educated and cultured people, such as this one with a joke about Venus of Willendorf.
And what do you think about Piraro comics - write in the comments.
