The artwork of Krasnoyarsk artist Bogdan Timchenko from Russia does not leave indifferent those whose childhood was spent in the Soviet Union and whose youth was already in the 90s. His drawings give a new look at familiar characters of Soviet cartoons, such as the famous parrot Kesha, Carlson, the Wolf and the hare.

Except that Timchenko has long outgrown the usual level of fan-art. His artworks are self-sufficient works, with original author's interpretation, which attracts many fans of quality illustrations. Yes, it is a kind of irony over mass culture, an attempt to combine Western blockbusters, thrash movies, sci-fi of the late 80-90s and Soviet cartoon characters, but it turned out at least unusual, the main thing is not to consider Timchenko's artwork too seriously, and not to think that the artist deliberately wanted to mock the good Soviet cartoons.
Wait a minute
However, Timchenko also got Disney princesses: he made a series of illustrations, where they personify various sins in the style of artworks of the famous theater decorator Alphonse Mucha. It turned out to be really original, unusual and beautiful, and this or that sin is easily identified, for example, Snow White represents gluttony, anger - Jasmine, and lust - Cinderella.

Timchenko said that he started drawing only in his second year of study - he simply felt that he lacked creativity in his life, and gradually became so interested in it that it became his main means of income and profession. In total, he completed many commissions, and specialized in prints and music covers. He has collaborated with almost all famous musicians, although he doesn't like to talk about it very much - because of the peculiarities of his contracts he is not allowed to disclose some details about who actually created all those pictures for CDs.

But not all orders were easy to fulfill. Timchenko said that an artist should carefully measure his strengths and avoid tight deadlines, otherwise instead of creativity, it would be pure agony. This was the case when working on a series of comics: as it turned out, the amount of artwork was so huge that it was almost impossible to fulfill it - there was burnout and loss of any motivation to create for six months. It is easier to draw individual illustrations or a series of them, as illustrators of the past did, without trying to combine them into a graphic story.

Timchenko considers himself a big fan of computer games and even made a series of drawings of cards for a famous card game, which is now played by millions of players. According to him, this artwork, although difficult, but very interesting, and it is nice when your picture will be seen by many people, even if they do not even guess who created it.
And at his leisure he draws fan-arts, for example, for the cult game of the early noughties Morrowind. According to him, a modern freelance artist just needs to be aware of all phenomena in popular culture, and not to close on only “high painting”.

Timchenko sincerely regrets that he was never able to realize many ideas to the end: “every illustrator has a whole graveyard of drawings at home, which should be brought to mind, but for various reasons it is not possible to do it.
Carlson
He is also wary of the future: “now there is a huge mix of all kinds of styles, and it is increasingly difficult to find something pure and original. Perhaps there will finally be a separation of art for the mass audience and “highbrow intellectuals”, and fans will dictate to artists how and what to draw. The Internet will become the main platform for creativity and exhibition, and different artists may not understand each other at all.
