Description

In this painting, a faceless woman belongs to a Pushtun family, her hands tightly bound by
strands of the flowers. The twisted and constrained baby breaths represent the untold aspirations and wishes
of Pashtun women, restricted by cultural constrains imposed upon them. The tightly compressed hands
indicate that these women have their desires and wants in several aspects of life. Nevertheless, these wishes
remain unheard, unseen and are given minimal consideration within the male dominated community. The
unexpressed and unseen wants of Pashtun women are buried behind the cultural restrictions that put a veil
over the voices and aspirations. This painting serves as a reminder of the struggle faced by countless women,
their dreams and aspirations are suppressed by the tight grip of cultural limitations.
